Group Counselling
What Is Group Counselling?
Group counselling is a form of therapy where a small group of people (usually 6–10) meet regularly with a trained counsellor to share experiences, explore personal challenges, and develop healthier ways of coping. It’s a safe and confidential setting where participants support one another under the guidance of a professional.
How It Works
Facilitated Sessions: A counsellor leads the group, setting goals, guiding discussions, and ensuring that everyone feels heard and respected.
Shared Focus: Groups may be open (for general emotional well-being) or focused on specific issues such as anxiety, grief, relationships, or stress.
Participation: Members share their thoughts, listen to others and contribute at your own pace. There’s no pressure to speak before you’re ready.
Confidentiality: What’s said in the group stays in the group, creating a safe and trusting environment.
Duration: Sessions typically last 1–2 hours and run weekly for a set number of weeks, depending on the group’s goals.
Therapeutic Approaches
Sessions are personalized and may draw from:
Cognitive and Narrative Approaches: To explore your inner dialogue and reframe unhelpful beliefs.
Attachment and Communication-Based Approaches: Supporting openness, trust, and compassionate dialogue.
Collaborative Problem-Solving: Encouraging shared responsibility and teamwork.
